Late winter
January, February
March.

When I am tired
and haven’t slept enough.
Remember this summer sun
This trophy of a killer tan.

Digging in the garden,
the smell of dirt and straw
watching the beans grow.
Salt on my skin.

The kids at the beach
sticky and hot,
asleep in the backseat
in the late afternoon
as we drive home.

Late winter
when I am tired
my eyelids so heavy.
Awake early again.

Let me sleep
with the windows open
and feed the mosquitos.
